Cloverdale is one of the 21 Coolest Small Towns in America, according to a survey conducted by Budget Travel magazine.
Editors chose the top 21 from a list of 147 nominations. Their criteria required the town have a population of less than 10,000 and be on the upswing, a place that’s beginning to draw attention because of quality of life, arts and restaurants, or proximity to nature.
One thing they were adamant about was “Cool doesn’t mean quaint. We want towns with an edge, so think avant-garde galleries, not country stores.”
Thanks to the wildly successful Friday Night Live series and sculpture event all summer long in the downtown plaza, an eclectic art gallery that showcases not only art, but even hosts events like belly dancing classes and jazz concerts, a newly constructed History Center with local artifacts and a research library, and the soon-to-be completed Performing Arts Center, Cloverdale has that “edge” they’re seeking.
Add to that Cloverdale’s close proximity to the Russian River, Lake Sonoma and numerous wineries in both Sonoma and Mendocino counties, and it seems like Cloverdale fits their critera pretty well.
